Any other programs for electrical assistance aside from LIHEAP and the ones associated with ones respective utility company? My power is close to being shut off and while i applied for LIHEAP about 2 months back, the funds were exhausted for the year and was only able to get a small grant offered by my utility company. If anyone has additional ideas I would be very appreciative! Thanks! Cat

Pati, I think you can get a tower for a lot less than $400 so if you can get on google you should just type in cheap towers for home computer and type in the whole thing and see what it brings up. Verizon is going to try to get you to buy the most expensive. I just wouldn't go out and buy a $400 tower because 1 brand said that is what I need. sheila

Verizon got it back on but no promise it will go on manna. Maybe I should leave it on all night and turn monitor off? No a tech will have to look at it and I know it is the operating system. It is cool here and no shortcake for strawberries when I ordered groceries and no See's Candy.

Hi! I am a 46 year old married mother of 3 children ages 9, 18 and 23 and need donations or grants to pay back my student loans. I graduate today with a BS in IT - Multimedia & Visual Communication (3.77 GPA) earned recently in Dec. 2010. My student loans are looming to be paid back starting in June 2011 and I cannot afford to pay it back at this time ($600/mo). My 18 year old honor student needs a car and insurance and because we will have her student loans and the added car and insurance payments, there is no money left to pay off my student loans. Our credit is not good due to a house fire on Christmas Eve 2007 (full renovation) that resulted in a bankruptcy in 2008, so debt consolidation is not an option. My only hope is to defer my loans if possible while she is in college, but my student loan debt will remain. I am willing to teach computer lessons in my community via the computer or locally (Baton Rouge, LA) to those who cannot afford to pay, if a business or organization would in turn donate to pay back my student loans ($60,000+). My heart is for the community and I love to help people learn!!

 in response to Starshine...   Hi again Patti, sorry it has taken me so long to get back to you but I just turned off the computer and cleaned my kitchen from top to bottom and mopped the floors. My bathrooms are in line for tomarrow but I don't mind so much since we have this nicer house since the fire. My bathrooms are really nice and when their clean they look like something out of a better homes and garden book. My sisters gave us a ton of pink and white stripped towels and hand towels and wash clothes and I put them up everytime I clean the bathroom and we have purple pink and aqua stripped shower curtain with rugs to match also given to us. I don't know how they all ended up matching so well but they sure do. Do you still have all the friends you used to call or they would call you? I hope so, I know how lonely you get and I know I would to. Do you go out for walks around your apartment, you never know who you might meet lol. How about inviting your neighbor over for coffee or tea or anything that you could talk over. Have you looked for a better place to live yet, the only thing is you would have to get out and about to do that. There is a lot you could find out on the phone though. I really hope you can take the steps that you will have to take to get out of there. Love and God bless mamashe

I am so sorry about Ruby. Foxie had stomach cancer knots on her tummy. She was 14 and not good at moving. Mom took her to vet while I was at school and they put her to sleep. Mom didn't watch.

 in response to Starshine...   Hi Patti, I've been trying to help our little pug Ruby feel a little better. We have meds for her for her pain and I'm on my thrid try in getting a tiny little pill down her, She gags it up everytime so I'm afraid I will have to get this syringe thing and crush the pill, mis it with warm milk and pry her mouth open and squirt it down her throat. God! I hate this, Doc said she may make it a few more weeks depending on the progress of her cancer and arthritis. In the mean time I have my new litte Pie Pie girl who is only 3 and she just wants to play and run from one end of the house to the next. I have also found a fantastic new dvd on Beginners in yoga for Arthritis sufferers. I have tried twice now to get started on it and Piepie thinks it's a new game we're playing while poor little Ruby tried to drag herself over to me with her little curly tail just waggin. Doc said that when her tail just stays down between her back legs for a whole day it is time to bring her in and kev and I are trying to get someone else to take her in....but I promised I would hold her tight and look into her eyes while they gave her the shot and no matter how hard it is I am going to do it. She won't be scared if she is in my arms and I know she would do the same for me. Anyway dear friend that is what I'm doing. How about you? love sheila

 in response to sandy24...   I think that if that is how some choose to deal with it its there choice. Everyone has a different way of handling deceit and betrayal and there are certainly more than one way to effectively deal with the feelings it brings. If you can be logical about it and sort it out that way, GREAT! Others may need to sort out their emotional attachment to whoever was at the other end of the computer. Obvioulsy they know it wasn't the real Chris but the time invested with their emotions and feelings are REal and your emotions dont know the difference. Its healthy to be angry about this, feel betrayed, and to feel sadness too. None of us can tell another how to feel or deal with the aftermath of such a betrayal. I think its best to allow any and everyone the freedom of dealing with it the best way they know how.

Never get a doctor who is not on call. Ask that first when You get someone. It is not like I can run to urgent care. I guess someone could take me but I think you need appointment as I had to use them before when I had cellulitits . I sure don't feel like setting the world aglow with the energy I feel.  in response to Starshine...   Yeah, thats what I was trying to find out from you as to what kind of drug they have you on. I'm extremely allergic to sulpher and my lips and eyes swell up so bad that I look like a bug eyed lip flippin fish. I also itch a lot. But the only thing you should have to do is call doc and he can call in another antibiotic somewhere where they deliver and get you on those. I would however in the meantime stop the sulpher drug altogether and try to get a replacement asap so the level of antibiotic won't go down so low in your system that that e-coli could start working again. I'm so sorry that you have to go through all this. One of the first things the doc should have asked you is if you were allergic to sulpher. Let me know how it goes OK? love mamashe/sheshe

How are you doing? I am okay but I think I have reaction to meds. I have red spots on my left calf and right foot area is red and and toes part of the are. I had a reaction like this to other meds. I just saw it last night then on left leg this morning. My friends father took them sulfar drug and he was so tired they took him off it fast.

 in response to mamashe/sheshe...   Thank you so much for your quick reply and empathy. It sounds like you know how much the damp and cold climate can increase pain and mobility. I do have heavy pain prescriptions left over from all of my previous surgeries but do not want to take them for fear I would rely on them whenever pain worsens. Most of my day I keep a heating pad around both hands which is what helps best. I was told by Mayo Clinic Hospital here that there was nothing more the surgeons could do for me. All operation procedures have been done and failed. I am now fused and have limited mobility in both thumb/wrists. I am just so tired of PAIN!!!!
I did live in AZ for many years and my best friend and other friends are willing to let me stay. The Grants I am seeking would provide assistance for actually moving my belongings so that I could get a fresh start and go back to school. This was a work related injury so I would need to go into another field of work that doesn't require much use of my hands. (Kind of eliminates lots of jobs) however, I do have a plan and remain optimistic that there are good people who may be able to help a good cause.

 in response to Needdryclimatehelp...   Hi, i can certainly emphasize with you as I have the same problems you do with arthritis you do ...in both hands and hips and my right thumb is comepletely unusable. I live in Washington state which is quite dry as I live in the eastern part of the state and whe are bone drey starting in the spring right on through the fall and our winters get so bad that getting around isn't easy. As far as I know there are no grants that would locate you because you have arthritis. The best thing you could do is try to find someone to visit for a week or so in Arizona and you could look around yourself and see whats available to you. You stated you used to live in Arizona, do you have any friends there that could take you in for awhile if they knew that you were looking for work? I do know the job markets here is Washington state is picking up a lot and houses are starting to sell again only at reasonable costs. I have read that the Northwest states except for California are doing much better than expected as far as hiring and building. We do have a great aidmate here that has more info then you could ever use and he could give you phone numbers and addresses and even people to talk to so I sugggest you go to his site and all you have to do is liik to the right of the main page where all our pictures are and look for the name "Schmidty" and his picture will be on it to. Just click on his picture and it will take you right to him and you can leave him a message if you like and he is very good about getting back quickly to those who post him. am Permanently disabled on SSDI due to degenerative arthritis in both thumb/wrists. I have had 11 surgeries and many joints fused and bones removed. I wish to relocate to AZ from Minnesota because the cold climate causes chronic pain that I can no longer tolerate. I have lived in Tucson, AZ before and feel the dry climate would help very much. I would like to work again if I am able without pain. Please help me I dont know where to find the right grant to apply for relocation and even cannot write my own grant to apply. Everyone has something that they can offer someone else. From helping someone learn to read, to teaching someone how to do something. (like play piano, make a cake or how to knit) We all have life experience that we've got stored up inside. We all have hobbies, interests and things we're passionate or energized about. All of that that is inside can be put to work to bring in not only money, but it can make you feel really good about what your doing too.

But how do you get what you know, out of you and available to someone else? That takes some thinking and planning. But then looking for work takes some time and work too. The difference here is that you're doing it to make income for yourself not someone else.

Maybe you're good at teaching things, then you could find a way to share this with people that want to learn the skills you have to offer.

Not a people person, that's okay too. You can still teach things without ever even seeing a student. With so many easy to use programs and a digital camera you can make a video of yourself or someone doing step by step what you are teaching. Writing a how to book is also a great way to teach as you can have images to show how to do things. If you combine the two and make an ebook - you can offer it online and make it interactive with video and links to more resources.

Now besides teaching what you know, there are other things that are wide open. Services and information are the most profitable thing right now. So many people need information of a ton of topics to help them with their problems or situations. We are a society that is addicted to information. Services are also a great revenue creator. Think of all the services you've used over the years. Services that others use around you and then think if you can provide any services that people are needing.

Like Bigwell's motto "Find a need - Fill a need"

But don't jump ahead of yourself, I also try to remember what my uncle told me when I was younger. He gave two bits of advice that I try to keep in mind.

"KISS - Keep it safe and simple" and "Work smarter, not harder"

Often we make things a lot more complicated than they need to be. We also don't think about sticking to the areas that are safe - both money wise, legal wise & health wise. Another thing that many have to relearn is that working yourself into the ground isn't going to pay off in a big way like it did a century ago. Besides, it didn't rally pay off all that big back then either. Putting the biggest muscle to work - your mind is a step in the right direction.

People say we can think, it's what makes us both good and bad. We don't run solely on instincts - but not listening to that "little voice" can sometimes cost you everything. So try to find a balance between what you "feel is right" and if your head agrees with it. There is no reason to reinvent something that's already been invented - unless you can make it better. Try to think in ways that are not only out of the box, but from completely different perspectives. Brainstorming can be a lot of fun and offer a pay off in more than just cash.

If you've spend month trying to find work...don't you think you can spend some time evaluating what you could be offering or sharing in a business of your own...Plus you don't have to fly solo - maybe you've got one half and someone else has one half of a great idea. Bring the two together and you've got something really great!

The number one thing that you can do for yourself is to educate that brain of yours. Searching for a job won't expand your opportunities or broaden the possibilities ahead. But learning, that can open a huge range of nearly unlimited options that you can go after. Even if you decide to find work or a job rather than start your own business - new knowledge will make you more likely to find something that will be a great match as well as more rewarding.

Wherever you do don't create limits that you don't need. You should already know what your abilities are, what your strengths are and what you are good at. There's no need to stuff yourself into a small box when there are enough things trying to block you or put you down. Don't limit yourself more - don't deny yourself the chance to really find something you love to do...something that will give you more than just a paycheck or income.

Plus there is something that many don't realize. An online business at home is a way to level the playing field. You can be from any background, culture, age, or ability. You can be a parent, senior or even a group of teens. What your clients or customers see is a business. If you are professional, offer good services or products & have a positive attitude. Those that find you the first time will come back again if they are satisfied. To them, it's the business - not the business owner that's important. So don't thnk you're too old, young or whatever. This is an open door...walk in & see where it goes.

The best way to work is to find something we love to do and get paid doing it. Then it's no longer work - it just becomes a part of having a better life. Part of something you really enjoy. What could be better than that? Good luck!

Keep dreaming, keep moving forward and never lose hope...
